Nothing about Samurott screams competitive powerhouse, and that's fine. Water means only weak to Electric and Grass. Known as the Formidable Pokemon. Can go either physical or special depending on the set.

Nothing fancy in Samurott's spread. It leans mixed with Sp. Atk out front. And you'll get 3 Sp. Atk EVs per KO for it. Follows a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve.

In the time it takes a foe to blink, it can draw and sheathe the seamitars attached to its front legs.

One swing of the sword incorporated in its armor can fell an opponent. A simple glare from one of them quiets everybody.

Leftovers buys the setup turn. Samurott clicks Swords Dance, then starts cleaning with Swords Dance and the remaining moves. Rash nature with max HP and Sp. Atk EVs makes sure nothing tanks a boosted hit comfortably.

The natural movepool does the job, but Air Slash and Assurance from the egg pool give Samurott something extra. Pair those with Hydro Cannon and Hydro Pump for STAB and coverage across 9 types for reach, and the kit fills out nicely.

Samurott isn't available in the wild in X & Y. Start by transferring Oshawott from Black, Black 2, or Legends: Arceus. The evolution path from Oshawott to Samurott is covered in the steps below.

How to Obtain Samurott in X & Y

  1. Oshawott
    Step 1Obtain Oshawott

    Receive as a gift in:

Then trade to X & Y to continue the evolution chain.

    Also found in:

  2. Samurott
    Step 3Samurott
  • Samurott works as an attacker with 528 BST behind it. C-Tier on our list — a situational pick that fills a niche. That 108 base Sp. Atk does the heavy lifting.

  • Watch for Rotom (Electric) and Venusaur (Grass) when using Samurott. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Only 2 weaknesses means fewer dedicated counters to worry about.

  • Dewott evolves into Samurott at level 36. Samurott is the final evolution in a 4-stage line starting from Oshawott. At 528 BST, it's got solid stats to work with.

  • Torrent strengthens water moves to inflict 1.5× damage at 1/3 max HP or less — that's the one you want on Samurott. Shell Armor is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses.

  • Samurott is a physical attacker with base 100 Attack. Enough bulk to take a hit or two, too. But the speed tells the real story — base 70 Speed is workable — faster than some, slower than many. Fits the attacker role.

  • Samurott appears in 8 games, including Black & White, Black 2 & White 2, and X & Y.

Available since Black & White, Samurott appears in 8 games spanning 5 generations. Beyond its original form, it gained a Hisuian form in Generation 8.
