While most trainers evolve Mareanie into Toxapex immediately, the unevolved form has a niche with Eviolite boosting its defenses. Only weak to Electric, Ground, and Psychic. Known as the Brutal Star Pokemon. Can go either physical or special depending on the set.

Mareanie's stats barely vary. None sit in respectable range with no real gaps. It's a blank slate for EV investment. Worth 1 Defense EV, medium-fast 1M XP curve to max.

Mareanie Weakness

Good

Mareanie's Poison/Water typing leaves it vulnerable to Electric, Ground, and Psychic. 8 resistances give it solid defensive coverage on top of that.

Location info for Winds & Waves is not yet available.

Location details will be added when the game launches.

  • Mareanie isn't fully evolved, so it's not built for competitive play. You'll want to evolve it into Toxapex to unlock its full potential. At 305 BST, it's a stepping stone rather than a team anchor.

  • Watch for Rotom (Electric), Excadrill (Ground), and Reuniclus (Psychic) when using Mareanie. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB.

  • Mareanie evolves into Toxapex at level 38. Mareanie is the base form of this evolutionary line.

  • Run Regenerator on Mareanie. It's the ability that defines how you build around it and the main reason it holds a competitive niche. Mareanie also gets Merciless and Limber, but they don't compare.

  • Mareanie fills the balanced role. It's leaning toward the physical side (base 53 Attack). Base 45 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. And it's fragile — can't afford to take many hits.

  • Mareanie can be found in Winds & Waves, Scarlet & Violet, Sword & Shield, Sun & Moon, and Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon.

Introduced in Sun & Moon, Mareanie has appeared in 5 games across 4 generations. Later debuts mean fewer total appearances, but it's been a consistent presence since its introduction.
