Mid-stage Pokemon like Lombre rarely see competitive play outside of special formats. It's a waypoint on the road to Ludicolo, which is where the real potential kicks in. Introduced in Gen 3. Only weak to Poison, Flying, and Bug.
An unusually even spread gives Lombre flexibility. Sp. Def barely edges ahead. But Attack isn't far off. Common in the wild and follows a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve. Yields 2 Sp. Def EVs.
It has a mischievous spirit. If it spots an angler, it will tug on the fishing line to interfere.
Lombre Weakness
AvgLombre's Water/Grass typing leaves it vulnerable to Poison, Flying, and Bug moves. Standard number of weaknesses for the Water/Grass typing.
Sitting between Lotad and Ludicolo, Lombre is part of a chain that requires an evolution item. Not your typical level-up setup. So far, HP got the biggest boost (+20 from Lotad). The final form adds another 140 stats on top.
How to Evolve
Breed with Lombre to get Lotad eggs easily from the Plant and Water1 egg groups. Notable egg moves include Counter, Flail, Giga Drain and 7 more.

The natural movepool does the job, but Counter and Flail from the egg pool give Lombre something extra. Pair those with Solar Beam and Hydro Pump for STAB and coverage across 7 types for reach, and the kit fills out nicely.

Lombre isn't available in the wild in Sun & Moon. Start by transferring Lotad from Sapphire, Emerald, or Shining Pearl. The evolution path from Lotad to Lombre is covered in the steps below.
Lombre is meant to evolve into Ludicolo. At 340 BST, the stats aren't there for competitive play yet. Pre-evolution Pokemon rarely hold up against fully evolved threats.
Swift Swim is what you want on Lombre. Every competitive set worth running is built with that ability in mind. The alternatives (Rain Dish, Own Tempo) work on paper but Swift Swim is what makes Lombre worth using.
Base 50 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. On offense, Lombre is leaning toward the special side (base 60 Sp. Atk).
