Mid-stage Pokemon like Lombre rarely see competitive play outside of special formats. It's a waypoint on the road to Ludicolo, which is where the real potential kicks in. Introduced in Gen 3. Only weak to Poison, Flying, and Bug.

An unusually even spread gives Lombre flexibility. Sp. Def barely edges ahead. But Attack isn't far off. Common in the wild and follows a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve. Yields 2 Sp. Def EVs.

LOMBRE is nocturnal - it will get active after dusk. It is also a mischief-maker. When this POKéMON spots anglers, it tugs on their fishing lines from beneath the surface and enjoys their consternation.

Ruby

LOMBRE’s entire body is covered by a slippery, slimy film. It feels horribly unpleasant to be touched by this POKéMON’s hands. LOMBRE is often mistaken for a human child.

or evolve from Lotad (Step 1)
  • Lombre is meant to evolve into Ludicolo. At 340 BST, the stats aren't there for competitive play yet. Pre-evolution Pokemon rarely hold up against fully evolved threats.

  • Watch for Nidoking (Poison), Salamence (Flying), and Pinsir (Bug) when using Lombre. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB.

  • Lotad evolves into Lombre at level 14. Lombre evolves into Ludicolo using a Water Stone. Lombre is a middle-stage evolution in the Lotad line.

  • Swift Swim is what you want on Lombre. Every competitive set worth running is built with that ability in mind. The alternatives (Rain Dish, Own Tempo) work on paper but Swift Swim is what makes Lombre worth using.

  • Base 50 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. On offense, Lombre is leaning toward the special side (base 60 Sp. Atk).

  • Lombre appears in 15 games, including Ruby & Sapphire, FireRed & LeafGreen, and Emerald.

Obtainable through an item-based evolution, Lombre appears in 15 titles across 7 generations since Ruby & Sapphire. The evolution method adds a barrier that wild-catchable Pokemon don't have.
