Stats & Training
Lickitung's spread favors balanced defenses over offense. HP leads the defensive side, Speed eats the cost. Yields 2 HP stat exp per defeat. Medium-fast 1M XP curve to level.
Its tongue can be extended like a chameleon’s. It leaves a tingling sensation when it licks enemies.

Lickitung Weakness
Lickitung is weak to Fighting. On the flip side, it's immune to Ghost-type moves entirely. With 90 HP and balanced defenses, Lickitung can afford to eat a neutral hit or two.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Fighting |
| 0x (Immune) | Ghost |
- Only 15 types exist — Dark, Steel, and Fairy are absent
- Ghost has no effect on Psychic (a known bug, fixed in Gen II)
- Special stat governs both offense and defense — no Sp.Atk / Sp.Def split
In Red & Blue, Machamp can KO Lickitung with Submission (86-101%).

Lickitung Guide
In Red & Blue, Lickitung isn't fully evolved, so it's not built for competitive play. You'll want to evolve it into Lickilicky to unlock its full potential. At 370 BST, it's a stepping stone rather than a team anchor.
In Red & Blue, Lickitung's biggest threats include Machamp (Fighting), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Only 1 weakness means fewer dedicated counters to worry about. At base 30 Speed, Lickitung won't outrun any of these threats so switching to a resist is usually the safer play.
In Red & Blue, Lickitung fills the balanced role. It's a physical attacker with base 55 Attack. Base 30 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.
In Red & Blue, Lickitung does the job early-game if you need a Normal type on your team. Evolve it into Lickilicky before the later gyms and it holds up fine through the story.
For Red & Blue, the core moveset is Body Slam, Earthquake, Hyper Beam, and Swords Dance. Body Slam leads at 14% usage. This set covers the balanced role with a mix of damage and utility.
