While most trainers evolve Baltoy into Claydol immediately, the unevolved form has a niche with Eviolite boosting its defenses. Electric moves can't touch it, which offsets the 6 weaknesses somewhat. Known as the Clay Doll Pokemon. Can go either physical or special depending on the set.

Sp. Def and Defense carry most of Baltoy's stat budget. HP's the obvious dump stat. Easy to catch and yields 1 Sp. Def EV. Follows a medium-fast 1M XP curve.

Baltoy Weakness

Vulnerable

Baltoy's Ground/Psychic typing leaves it vulnerable to Water, Grass, Ice, Bug, Ghost, and Dark moves. It shrugs off Electric-type attacks completely. 4 resistances help offset the weaknesses. Levitate grants an additional Ground immunity, reshaping the matchup chart.

One evolution ahead. Baltoy grows into Claydol through a straightforward two-stage chain. A decent partner pool for breeding via one egg group. Eggs are average hatch time. The evolved forms gain up to 200 total stats over Baltoy.

Baltoy doesn't appear in Black & White. Transfer it from Ruby, Emerald, or Sword to add it to your collection. Check the source games below for encounter details.

Also found in:

  • Baltoy is meant to evolve into Claydol. At 300 BST, the stats aren't there for competitive play yet. Pre-evolution Pokemon rarely hold up against fully evolved threats.

  • Watch for Milotic (Water), Breloom (Grass), and Lapras (Ice) when using Baltoy. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Bug, Ghost, and Dark-type attackers are also a problem. With 6 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter.

  • Baltoy evolves into Claydol at level 36. Baltoy is the base form of this evolutionary line.

  • Levitate is what you want on Baltoy. Every competitive set worth running is built with that ability in mind.

  • At base 55 Speed, it won't be moving first often. On offense, Baltoy is leaning toward the physical side (base 40 Attack). Defensively? Fragile — can't afford to take many hits.

  • Baltoy appears in 14 games, including Ruby & Sapphire, FireRed & LeafGreen, and Emerald.

Available in 14 titles since its debut in Ruby & Sapphire, Baltoy spans 7 generations of Pokemon games. It's accessible through catching or hatching as a base form in a solid number of games.
