Ghost moves don't affect Ambipom at all — that's the advantage of Normal typing. Technician boosts weaker moves to surprising damage levels. Known as the Long Tail Pokemon. Built to hit on the physical side.
The stat budget goes to damage. Speed and Attack carry the offense, Sp. Atk doesn't even come close. A Long Tail Pokemon on a fast 800K XP curve, worth 2 Speed EVs per KO.
They live on large trees. They are said to communicate by connecting their tails to those of others.
It is very difficult to dodge the consecutive strikes of its two tails.
Ambipom Weakness
GoodAmbipom is weak to Fighting-type moves. On the flip side, it's immune to Ghost-type moves entirely. Ambipom leans offensive (base 100 Atk) rather than trying to tank its weaknesses.
- Fairy type does not exist — Dragon has fewer checks
- Physical / Special split now per-move (introduced Gen IV)
Getting Ambipom requires knowing a specific move, not just grinding levels. The chain starts at Aipom. Breed this form to get Aipom eggs (average hatch time). Attack grew the most through evolution (+30 over Aipom), and Ambipom peaks at 482 total stats.
How to Evolve
Breed with Ambipom to get Aipom eggs easily using 131 partners from the Ground egg group. Notable egg moves include Agility, Beat Up, Bounce and 8 more.
Ambipom keeps momentum with U-turn, switching out after dealing damage or scouting. Life Orb gives it extra damage on every hit for a health trade, max Attack and Speed EVs let it hit hard on the way out, and the remaining moves prevents dead turns.

The TM pool is where it gets interesting. Coverage across 14 types means almost nothing walls Ambipom cleanly, with Giga Impact and Hyper Beam anchoring the STAB side. Matchup flexibility isn't a problem.

Step 2Ambipom ✓
Technician changes the entire equation for Ambipom. The 482 BST doesn't tell the full story. Ranked A-Tier as a sweeper.
Ambipom's biggest threats include Machamp (Fighting), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Only 1 weakness means fewer dedicated counters to worry about. Ambipom's base 115 Speed lets it outpace many threats and strike first, which matters more than trying to tank hits.
Aipom evolves into Ambipom after learning Double Hit. Ambipom is the fully evolved form. At 482 BST, it's got solid stats to work with.
Technician is what you want on Ambipom. Every competitive set worth running is built with that ability in mind. The alternatives (Pickup, Skill Link) work on paper but Technician is what makes Ambipom worth using. With base 115 Speed, Technician gives Ambipom an edge before opponents can react.
Base 115 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. On offense, Ambipom is a physical attacker with base 100 Attack. Defensively? Enough bulk to take a hit or two. Best used as a sweeper.
Ambipom appears in 12 games, including Platinum, HeartGold & SoulSilver, and Diamond & Pearl.
Available in 12 titles since its debut in Diamond & Pearl, Ambipom spans 6 generations of Pokemon games. It's accessible through wild encounters in a solid number of games.
