Mid-stage Pokemon like Litwick rarely see competitive play outside of special formats. It's a waypoint on the road to Lampent, which is where the real potential kicks in. Normal and Fighting moves can't touch it, which offsets the 5 weaknesses somewhat. Known as the Candle Pokemon.
Sp. Atk and Defense carry most of Litwick's stat budget. Speed's the obvious dump stat. Common in the wild and yields 1 Sp. Atk EV. Follows a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve.
The flame on its head keeps its body slightly warm. This Pokémon takes lost children by the hand to guide them to the spirit world.
The younger the life this Pokémon absorbs, the brighter and eerier the flame on its head burns.
Litwick Weakness
GoodLitwick's Ghost/Fire typing leaves it vulnerable to Water, Ground, Rock, Ghost, and Dark moves. It shrugs off Normal and Fighting-type attacks completely. With 7 resistances, the defensive profile is strong. Flash Fire grants an additional Fire immunity, reshaping the matchup chart.
From here, Litwick's line branches into Lampent and Chandelure. That's 2 possible evolutions, each with its own method. The evolved forms gain up to 245 total stats over Litwick.
How to Evolve
Eviolite makes Litwick bulkier than you'd expect from something that still evolves. A spread EV build EVs with Modest nature handle the stat profile. The remaining moves keeps it from being passive.

Level-up moves are just the starting point for Litwick. TMs unlock Poison and Dark coverage and more and turn a straightforward STAB kit around Overheat and Flare Blitz into something with actual range.

Leveling does the heavy lifting. Litwick picks up Flamethrower and Overheat along the way, building toward a complete offensive set. TMs add Dark and Grass coverage and more, but the foundation's already strong by then.
The natural movepool does the job, but Acid Armor and Clear Smog from the egg pool give Litwick something extra.

Litwick is meant to evolve into Lampent. At 275 BST, the stats aren't there for competitive play yet. Pre-evolution Pokemon rarely hold up against fully evolved threats.
Watch for Milotic (Water), Swampert (Ground), and Terrakion (Rock) when using Litwick. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Ghost and Dark-type attackers are also a problem. With 5 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter. At base 20 Speed, Litwick won't outrun any of these threats so switching to a resist is usually the safer play.
Litwick can evolve into Lampent and Chandelure depending on the method. Litwick is the base form in a 3-stage evolutionary line.
Flash Fire is what you want on Litwick. Every competitive set worth running is built with that ability in mind. The alternatives (Flame Body, Infiltrator) work on paper but Flash Fire is what makes Litwick worth using.
Base 20 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. On offense, Litwick is a special attacker with base 65 Sp. Atk. Defensively? Fragile — can't afford to take many hits.
Litwick appears in 9 games, including Black & White, Black 2 & White 2, and X & Y.
Litwick joined the series in Black & White and has been available in 9 titles so far. With 5 generations of appearances, it's established itself despite the later start.
