That 4x Bug weakness is something every Venusaur user needs to plan around. Known as the Seed Pokemon. Can go either physical or special depending on the set.
Venusaur's stats barely vary. 6 sit in respectable range with no real gaps. It's a blank slate for EV investment. Worth 3 Sp. Atk and Sp. Def EVs, 1.06M XP medium-slow curve to max.
The plant blooms when it is absorbing solar energy. It stays on the move to seek sunlight.
Venusaur Weakness
FragileVenusaur's Grass/Poison typing leaves it vulnerable to Bug, Fire, Ice, Flying, and Psychic moves. Bug hits land at 4x, so they're the biggest threat. It resists 4 types, giving it decent defensive coverage.
- Only 15 types exist — Dark, Steel, and Fairy are absent
- Ghost has no effect on Psychic (a known bug, fixed in Gen II)
- Special stat governs both offense and defense — no Sp.Atk / Sp.Def split
The Grass/Poison-type Venusaur caps Bulbasaur's chain at 525 stats. No daycare options for this one. Evolving from Bulbasaur gave Venusaur the biggest boost in HP (+35), bringing the total to 525 stats.
How to Evolve
an item and an ability form the backbone. Venusaur invests flexible EVs EVs to play its attacker role properly, and a nature nature pushes higher. Razorleaf handles the heavy lifting on offense. The remaining moves rounds it out.

Recommended Teammates
Without TMs, Venusaur's movepool is bare bones. With them, you get Normal coverage on top of Solar Beam and Razor Leaf for STAB. The natural kit handles basics, but TMs are doing the real work.

Can't catch Venusaur directly. Start with Bulbasaur but it's a rare spawn from the locations below, then evolve at level 32. The 3-stage chain from Bulbasaur to Venusaur is where the leveling time goes.
Don't let Venusaur's 525 base stat total fool you. Chlorophyll is what makes it tick — it punches way above its weight class. We rate it C-Tier as an attacker.
Watch for Pinsir (Bug), Arcanine (Fire), and Lapras (Ice) when using Venusaur. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Pinsir is the most dangerous since Bug moves deal 4x damage. Flying and Psychic-type attackers are also a problem. With 5 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter.
Venusaur fills the attacker role. It's leaning toward the special side (base 100 Sp. Atk). Base 80 Speed is workable — faster than some, slower than many. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.
Venusaur appears in 21 games, including Yellow, Red & Blue, and Gold & Silver.
Venusaur first appeared in Red & Blue and spans 21 games across 9 generations. It later gained a Mega form in Generation 7 and a Gigantamax form in Generation 8, adding new dimensions to its competitive identity.
