If Staraptor goes down before it attacks, it contributed nothing. If it doesn't, something on the other side is going down. Intimidate lowers the opponent's Attack on switch-in, which helps. Ground and Ghost moves can't touch it, and only 3 types hit it super-effectively.
Everything pushes toward physical damage here. Staraptor's Attack does the work, Sp. Atk pays the price. But you're still getting 3 Attack EVs per KO. Tough to catch, on a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve.
