Mid-stage Pokemon like Spewpa rarely see competitive play outside of special formats. It's a waypoint on the road to Vivillon, which is where the real potential kicks in. Part of the Gen 6 roster. Only weak to Fire, Flying, and Rock.

Nothing fancy in Spewpa's spread. It leans mixed with Defense out front. And you'll get 2 Defense EVs per KO for it. Follows a medium-fast 1M XP curve.

If Rufflet attacks this Pokémon by pecking at it, it will retaliate with its sharp fur and poisonous black powder.

Scarlet

Spewpa doesn’t live in a fixed location. It roams where it pleases across the fields and mountains, building up the energy it needs to evolve.

Violet

Spewpa Weakness

Avg

Fire, Flying, and Rock-type moves hit Spewpa for super-effective damage. Spewpa's physical bulk (base 60 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.

Spewpa sits between Scatterbug and Vivillon in this three-stage line. Not the final form yet. For breeding, quick to hatch with no compatible partners via one egg group. So far, Defense got the biggest boost (+20 from Scatterbug). The final form adds another 198 stats on top.

A compact toolkit overall. The offense runs through Bug Bite for Spewpa, with Normal coverage doing what it can. Don't expect versatility from this one.

Spewpa can't be caught in Sun & Moon. Transfer Scatterbug from X, Ultra Sun, or Scarlet and evolve through the 2-stage line to get it. The step cards below map the full chain.

How to Obtain Spewpa in Sun & Moon

  • At 213 BST, Spewpa is firmly in pre-evolution territory. Evolve it into Vivillon before bringing it to any serious fight.

  • Watch for Charizard (Fire), Dodrio (Flying), and Tyranitar (Rock) when using Spewpa. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. At base 29 Speed, Spewpa won't outrun any of these threats so switching to a resist is usually the safer play.

  • Scatterbug evolves into Spewpa at level 9. Spewpa evolves into Vivillon at level 12. Spewpa is a middle-stage evolution in the Scatterbug line.

  • Shed Skin has a 33% chance of curing any major status ailment after each turn — that's the one you want on Spewpa. Friend Guard is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses.

  • Spewpa is leaning toward the special side (base 27 Sp. Atk). Fragile — can't afford to take many hits, too. But the speed tells the real story — base 29 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go.

  • Spewpa appears in 6 games, including X & Y, Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire, and Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon.

Since X & Y, Spewpa has been obtainable in 6 games. A Generation 6 debut means a shorter history, but Spewpa has appeared steadily across every generation since.
