Mid-stage Pokemon like Snivy rarely see competitive play outside of special formats. It's a waypoint on the road to Serperior, which is where the real potential kicks in. Can go either physical or special depending on the set. Been around since Gen 5.

Snivy's stats barely vary. 0 sit in respectable range with no real gaps. It's a blank slate for EV investment. Worth 1 Speed EV, 1.06M XP medium-slow curve to max.

Being exposed to sunlight makes its movements swifter. It uses vines more adeptly than its hands.

The natural movepool does the job, but Captivate and Glare from the egg pool give Snivy something extra.

Snivy can't be caught in X & Y. Bring it over from Black, Black 2, or Omega Ruby instead. The encounter info below covers the source games.

Snivy is not available as a wild encounter in this game.

Then trade to X & Y.

Also found in:

  • Snivy isn't fully evolved, so it's not built for competitive play. You'll want to evolve it into Servine to unlock its full potential. At 308 BST, it's a stepping stone rather than a team anchor.

  • Watch for Charizard (Fire), Cloyster (Ice), and Nidoking (Poison) when using Snivy. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Flying and Bug-type attackers are also a problem. With 5 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter.

  • Snivy evolves into Servine at level 17. Snivy is the base form in a 3-stage evolutionary line.

  • Run Contrary on Snivy. It's the ability that defines how you build around it and the main reason it holds a competitive niche. Snivy also gets Overgrow, but they don't compare.

  • Snivy fills the balanced role. It's leaning toward the physical side (base 45 Attack). At base 63 Speed, it won't be moving first often. And it's fragile — can't afford to take many hits.

  • Snivy appears in 7 games, including Black & White, Black 2 & White 2, and X & Y.

Introduced in Black & White, Snivy has appeared in 7 games across 5 generations. Later debuts mean fewer total appearances, but it's been a consistent presence since its introduction.
