Magby is a baby Pokemon from Gen 2 — it can't hold its own in battle yet. The payoff is Magmortar, which is where the real competitive value lives. Worth raising if you need one on your team. Flexible enough to run physical or special sets.
Magby's built around mixed offense. Speed leads the charge, Defense pays for it. Tough to catch, worth 1 Speed EV. Follows a medium-fast 1M XP curve.
Each and every time it inhales and exhales, hot embers dribble from its mouth and nostrils.
It is found in volcanic craters. Its body temperature is over 1,100 degrees Fahrenheit, so don’t underestimate it.
Magby Weakness
AvgMagby is weak to Water, Ground, and Rock-type moves. It resists 5 types, giving it decent defensive coverage. 3 weaknesses is about average, nothing too hard to play around.
- Fairy type does not exist — Dragon has fewer checks
- Physical / Special split now per-move (introduced Gen IV)
Magby is the baby form here. It evolves into Magmar at level 30, but you can't breed it directly. Hatch one by breeding the evolved forms instead. Evolving adds up to 175 stat points total.

Magby fills the balanced role. It's a mixed attacker — base 75 Attack and 70 Sp. Atk. Base 83 Speed is workable — faster than some, slower than many. And it's fragile — can't afford to take many hits.
