Dragon/Psychic gives Latias strong STAB coverage, and its stat spread wastes nothing on the offensive side. It clears the crowded base-100 Speed benchmark. A competitive force since Gen 3. 5 type weaknesses to keep in mind. Known as the Eon Pokemon.

Nothing fancy in Latias's spread. It leans special with Sp. Def out front. And you'll get 3 Sp. Def EVs per KO for it. Follows a slow 1.25M XP grind.

Latias Weakness

Vulnerable

Latias is weak to Ice, Bug, Ghost, Dragon, and Dark-type moves. It resists 6 types, so it can switch into a lot of moves safely. Levitate grants an additional Ground immunity, reshaping the matchup chart. Latias's special bulk (base 130 Sp.Def) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.

Most of Latias's flexibility comes from TMs. Same-type output runs through Dream Eater and Mist Ball, but Flying and Normal and the rest of the TM pool push it from predictable to genuinely threatening.

Latias can't be caught in FireRed & LeafGreen. Bring it over from Ruby, Emerald, or Ultra Moon instead. The encounter info below covers the source games.

Latias is not available as a wild encounter in this game.

Then trade to FireRed & LeafGreen.

Also found in:

  • Latias is a Legendary Pokemon rated A-Tier on our tier list. At 600 BST, it hits hard. It excels as a sweeper. That 130 base Sp. Def does the heavy lifting.

  • Latias's biggest threats include Walrein (Ice), Pinsir (Bug), and Gengar (Ghost), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Dragon and Dark-type attackers are also a problem. With 5 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter. Latias has enough bulk to absorb a hit, but don't push the matchup. Pivot to a teammate that resists.

  • Latias doesn't evolve. As a Legendary Pokemon, it stands on its own without an evolutionary line. It's a Dragon/Psychic type with 600 BST.

  • Latias gets Levitate. But Levitate is the one that matters — it's the centerpiece of every viable set. Build around that. With base 110 Speed, Levitate gives Latias an edge before opponents can react.

  • Latias is a special attacker with base 110 Sp. Atk. Tanky enough to absorb a few hits, too. But the speed tells the real story — base 110 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. Fits the sweeper role.

  • Latias appears in 16 games, including Ruby & Sapphire, FireRed & LeafGreen, and Emerald.

Since Ruby & Sapphire, Latias has appeared in 16 games. Legendary Pokemon like Latias are usually found through story events or special post-game areas rather than random encounters.
