While most trainers evolve Hakamo-o into Kommo O immediately, the unevolved form has a niche with Eviolite boosting its defenses. Watch the Fairy matchup though — quadruple damage means one hit can end it. Watch the Fairy matchup though — quadruple damage means one hit can end it.
Hakamo-o's spread isn't flashy. Defense leads, HP trails, 1 stats clear the bar. Tough to catch and worth 2 Defense EVs, on a slow 1.25M XP grind.
It makes noise by clanging its scales together. When the rhythm has reached its peak, Hakamo-o attacks.
The scales it sheds can be molded and processed to make pots and pans. They conduct heat well, so they’re a popular item.
Hakamo O Weakness
FragileHakamo O's Dragon/Fighting typing leaves it vulnerable to Fairy, Ice, Flying, Psychic, and Dragon moves. Fairy hits land at 4x, so they're the biggest threat. 7 resistances give it solid defensive coverage on top of that.
Hakamo O is the middle stage between Jangmo O and Kommo O. It's a three-stage line with one more evolution to go. For breeding, takes forever to hatch with no compatible partners via one egg group. So far, Defense got the biggest boost (+25 from Jangmo O).
How to Evolve
Breed with Hakamo-o to get Jangmo O eggs from the Dragon egg group. Notable egg moves include Counter, Dragon Breath, Reversal.
Focus Sash buys the setup turn. Hakamo O clicks Dragon Dance, then starts cleaning with Dragon Dance and Ground coverage. Adamant nature with max Attack without Speed EVs makes sure nothing tanks a boosted hit comfortably.

The natural movepool does the job, but Counter and Dragon Breath from the egg pool give Hakamo O something extra. Pair those with Draco Meteor and Outrage for STAB and coverage across 9 types for reach, and the kit fills out nicely.

Hakamo-o isn't fully evolved, so it's not built for competitive play. At 420 BST, it's a stepping stone rather than a team anchor.
Watch for Sylveon (Fairy), Weavile (Ice), and Braviary (Flying) when using Hakamo-o. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Sylveon is the most dangerous since Fairy moves deal 4x damage. Psychic and Dragon-type attackers are also a problem. With 5 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter.
Bulletproof protects against bullet, ball, and bomb-based moves — that's the one you want on Hakamo-o. Overcoat is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses. Soundproof works too if your team needs something different.
Hakamo-o fills the balanced role. It's a physical attacker with base 75 Attack. At base 65 Speed, it won't be moving first often. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.
Hakamo-o can be found in Scarlet & Violet, Sword & Shield, Sun & Moon, and Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon.
Introduced in Sun & Moon, Hakamo O has appeared in 4 games across 3 generations. Later debuts mean fewer total appearances, but it's been a consistent presence since its introduction.
