Between Sap Sipper and Grass typing, Gogoat carves out a strong competitive niche. It absorbs Grass moves and boosts its Attack, which gives it an edge most Pokemon in its stat range don't have. 5 type weaknesses to keep in mind.

Raw HP carries Gogoat's bulk more than the defenses do. Defense barely registers. But that HP pool covers for it. A tough to catch Mount Pokemon that yields 2 HP EVs on a medium-fast 1M XP curve.

It can tell how its Trainer is feeling by subtle shifts in the grip on its horns. This empathic sense lets them run as if one being.

Don't skip the egg moves. Gogoat picks up Defense Curl and Milk Drink only through breeding, and both fill gaps the natural movepool can't. STAB runs through Solar Beam and Leaf Blade while coverage across 8 types adds range.

Gogoat doesn't appear wild. Catch Skiddo instead, it shows up at solid rates. Evolve it at level 32 to get Gogoat. The 2-stage line is mapped in the step cards below.

How to Obtain Gogoat in X & Y

Skiddo is your first catch on the way to Gogoat. You'll find walking encounters from Lv. 8-10 across 4 total spots in the chain.

  2. Gogoat
    Step 2Gogoat
  • Sap Sipper changes the entire equation for Gogoat. The 531 BST doesn't tell the full story. Ranked C-Tier as a tank.

  • Watch for Infernape (Fire), Kyurem (Ice), and Roserade (Poison) when using Gogoat. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Flying and Bug-type attackers are also a problem. With 5 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter.

  • Skiddo evolves into Gogoat at level 32. Gogoat is the fully evolved form. At 531 BST, it's got solid stats to work with.

  • Sap Sipper is what you want on Gogoat. Every competitive set worth running is built with that ability in mind. The alternatives (Grass Pelt) work on paper but Sap Sipper is what makes Gogoat worth using.

  • At base 68 Speed, it won't be moving first often. On offense, Gogoat is a physical attacker with base 100 Attack. Defensively? Enough bulk to take a hit or two. Best used as a tank.

  • Gogoat appears in 6 games, including X & Y, Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire, and Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon.

Gogoat joined the series in X & Y and has been available in 6 titles so far. With 4 generations of appearances, it's established itself despite the later start.
