Mid-stage Pokemon like Bounsweet rarely see competitive play outside of special formats. It's a waypoint on the road to Tsareena, which is where the real potential kicks in. Part of the Gen 7 roster. 5 type weaknesses to keep in mind.

You won't find a real weakness in Bounsweet's stat line. It's well-rounded for the Fruit Pokemon, and what it does with that depends on moveset and items. Yields 1 HP EV, on a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve.

Don't skip the egg moves. Bounsweet picks up Acupressure and Charm only through breeding, and both fill gaps the natural movepool can't. STAB runs through Solar Beam and Energy Ball while Normal and Fairy coverage adds range.

  • At 210 BST, Bounsweet is firmly in pre-evolution territory. Evolve it into Steenee before bringing it to any serious fight.

  • Watch for Arcanine (Fire), Walrein (Ice), and Nidoking (Poison) when using Bounsweet. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Flying and Bug-type attackers are also a problem. With 5 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter. At base 32 Speed, Bounsweet won't outrun any of these threats so switching to a resist is usually the safer play.

  • Bounsweet evolves into Steenee at level 18. Bounsweet is the base form in a 3-stage evolutionary line.

  • Leaf Guard protects against major status ailments during strong sunlight — that's the one you want on Bounsweet. Sweet Veil is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses. Oblivious works too if your team needs something different.

  • Bounsweet is leaning toward the physical side (base 30 Attack). Fragile — can't afford to take many hits, too. But the speed tells the real story — base 32 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go.

  • Bounsweet can be found in Scarlet & Violet, Sword & Shield, Sun & Moon, and Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon.

Since Sun & Moon, Bounsweet has been obtainable in 4 games. A Generation 7 debut means a shorter history, but Bounsweet has appeared steadily across every generation since.
