Slow is good when Trick Room is up, and Avalugg is about as slow as they come. Ice typing gives it a defined role on the team. Only weak to Fire, Fighting, Rock, and Steel. Known as the Iceberg Pokemon.

The stat bars tell the story: Defense carries everything and Speed's dead weight. But this Iceberg Pokemon still yields 2 Defense EVs per fight on a medium-fast 1M XP curve.

Its ice-covered body is as hard as steel. Its cumbersome frame crushes anything that stands in its way.

Omega Ruby

The way several Bergmite huddle on its back makes it look like an aircraft carrier made of ice.

Avalugg Weakness

Fragile

Fire, Fighting, Rock, and Steel-type moves hit Avalugg for super-effective damage. Avalugg's physical bulk (base 184 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.

Avalugg can't be caught in Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire. Transfer Bergmite from X or Sword and evolve through the 2-stage line to get it. The step cards below map the full chain.

How to Obtain Avalugg in Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire

  1. Bergmite
    Step 1Obtain Bergmite

    Catch in the wild in:

Then trade to Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire to continue the evolution chain.

    Also found in:

  2. Avalugg
    Step 2Avalugg
  • Avalugg works as a wallbreaker with 514 BST behind it. B-Tier on our list — a solid choice for the right team. That 184 base Defense does the heavy lifting.

  • Watch for Infernape (Fire), Conkeldurr (Fighting), and Golem (Rock) when using Avalugg. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Steel-type attackers are also a problem. At base 28 Speed, Avalugg won't outrun any of these threats so switching to a resist is usually the safer play.

  • Bergmite evolves into Avalugg at level 37. Avalugg is the final evolution in a 3-stage line starting from Bergmite. At 514 BST, it's got solid stats to work with.

  • Own Tempo prevents confusion — that's the one you want on Avalugg. Sturdy is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses. Ice Body works too if your team needs something different.

  • Avalugg is leaning toward the physical side (base 117 Attack). Tanky enough to absorb a few hits, too. But the speed tells the real story — base 28 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. Fits the wallbreaker role.

  • Avalugg appears in 8 games, including X & Y, Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire, and Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon.

Available since X & Y, Avalugg appears in 8 games spanning 4 generations. Beyond its original form, it gained a Hisuian form in Generation 8.
