Torterra Weakness

Ice, Fire, Flying, and Bug moves hit Torterra for super-effective damage. Ice hits land at 4x, so they're the biggest threat. The upside? Electric-type moves can't touch it at all. Torterra's overall bulk (95/105/85) lets it take a hit or two from most weaknesses before going down.

Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl Torterra Best Moveset

Shellarmor helps Torterra stick around while dealing real damage. Assault Vest for a special bulk boost with no status moves allowed, max HP and Attack EVs for the right balance, and Earthquake as the main threat. Not the fastest, but it doesn't need to be.

Torterra Guide

  • In Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, Torterra works as a tank with 525 BST behind it. C-Tier on our list: a niche pick in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl's meta. Earthquake with Assault Vest is the standard set.

  • In Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, watch for Cloyster (Ice), Arcanine (Fire), and Salamence (Flying) when using Torterra. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Cloyster is the most dangerous since Ice moves deal 4x damage. Bug-type attackers are also a problem.

  • Overgrow strengthens grass moves to inflict 1.5× damage at 1/3 max HP or less. That's the one you want on Torterra. Shell Armor is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses.

  • Torterra is a physical attacker with base 109 Attack. Tanky enough to absorb a few hits, too. Speed tells the real story. At base 56 Speed, it won't be moving first often. Fits the tank role.

  • For Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, Torterra has answers, but so do you. Status moves (Toxic, Will-O-Wisp) wear it down. Setup sweepers can use it as a boost opportunity. Special attackers bypass its physical bulk.

Game Availability

Debuting in Diamond & Pearl, Torterra appears in 12 games across 7 generations. A reliable presence in a solid number of games, typically found through wild encounters.
