Almost nobody uses Morelull in battle. It exists to evolve into Shiinotic, which is a completely different story. Get it there and you won't regret it. Part of the Gen 7 roster. Dragon moves can't touch it, which offsets the 5 weaknesses somewhat.
Nothing fancy in Morelull's spread. It leans special with Sp. Def out front. And you'll get 1 Sp. Def EV per KO for it. Follows a medium-fast 1M XP curve.
It scatters spores that flicker and glow. Anyone seeing these lights falls into a deep slumber.
As it drowses the day away, it nourishes itself by sucking from tree roots. It wakens at the fall of night, wandering off in search of a new tree.
Morelull Weakness
VulnerableMorelull's Grass/Fairy typing leaves it vulnerable to Poison, Fire, Ice, Flying, and Steel moves. Poison hits land at 4x, so they're the biggest threat. It shrugs off Dragon-type attacks completely. It resists 6 types, so it can switch into a lot of moves safely.
Morelull is the base form in a two-stage line leading to Shiinotic. Check the evolution method below. No compatible partners for breeding via one egg group. Eggs are average hatch time. The evolved forms gain up to 120 total stats over Morelull.
How to Evolve
Breed Morelull easily from the Plant egg group. Pass egg moves like Amnesia, Growth, Leech Seed and 2 more to offspring.

You'll want to breed for Amnesia and Growth on Morelull. These egg moves aren't just nice to have. Combined with STAB from Solar Beam and Moonblast, they expand what Morelull can actually threaten in practice.

Morelull is available from early-game routes onward at high spawn rates. 10 encounter spots give you plenty of options. Grab one early and it'll be ready to evolve or train by mid-game.
Best Locations
Morelull's encounter pool splits between Moon and Sun. You've got 10 walking spots at Lv. 14-27 total, but your version determines which ones actually show up.
At 285 BST, Morelull is firmly in pre-evolution territory. Evolve it into Shiinotic before bringing it to any serious fight.
Watch for Naganadel (Poison), Charizard (Fire), and Cloyster (Ice) when using Morelull. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Naganadel is the most dangerous since Poison moves deal 4x damage. Flying and Steel-type attackers are also a problem. With 5 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter. At base 15 Speed, Morelull won't outrun any of these threats so switching to a resist is usually the safer play.
Morelull evolves into Shiinotic at level 24. Morelull is the base form of this evolutionary line.
Illuminate doubles the wild encounter rate — that's the one you want on Morelull. Rain Dish is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses. Effect Spore works too if your team needs something different.
Morelull is a special attacker with base 65 Sp. Atk. But the speed tells the real story — base 15 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go.
Morelull can be found in Sword & Shield, Sun & Moon, and Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon.
Since Sun & Moon, Morelull has been obtainable in 3 games. A Generation 7 debut means a shorter history, but Morelull has appeared steadily across every generation since.
