Stats & Training
Herdier's spread isn't flashy. Attack leads, Sp. Atk trails, 1 stats clear the bar. Common in the wild and worth 2 Attack EVs, on a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve.
This very loyal Pokémon helps Trainers, and it also takes care of other Pokémon.
It has black, cape-like fur that is very hard and decreases the amount of damage it receives.
Herdier Weakness
Herdier's Normal typing leaves it vulnerable to Fighting. It shrugs off Ghost-type attacks completely. Only 1 weakness makes it relatively easy to build around defensively.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Fighting |
| 0x (Immune) | Ghost |
In X & Y, Hitmontop can KO Herdier with Close Combat (182-215%).

How to Get Herdier in X & Y
Herdier isn't available in the wild in X & Y. Start by transferring Lillipup from Black, Black 2, or Sword. The evolution path from Lillipup to Herdier is covered in the steps below.
Herdier Guide
In X & Y, Herdier isn't fully evolved, so it's not built for competitive play. You'll want to evolve it into Stoutland to unlock its full potential. At 370 BST, it's a stepping stone rather than a team anchor.
In X & Y, watch for Blaziken (Fighting) when using Herdier. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Only 1 weakness means fewer dedicated counters to worry about.
In X & Y, Run Intimidate on Herdier. It's the ability that defines how you build around it and the main reason it holds a competitive niche. Herdier also gets Sand Rush and Scrappy, but they don't compare.
In X & Y, Herdier fills the balanced role. It's a physical attacker with base 80 Attack. At base 60 Speed, it won't be moving first often.
Game Availability
Introduced in Black & White, Herdier has appeared in 7 games across 6 generations. Later debuts mean fewer total appearances, but it's been a consistent presence since its introduction.
