Nothing about Gallade screams competitive powerhouse, and that's fine. Psychic/Fighting means only weak to Flying and Ghost. The stat spread favors raw physical power. Introduced in Gen 4.

Attack and Sp. Def carry most of Gallade's stat budget. Defense's the obvious dump stat. Tough to catch and yields 3 Attack EVs. Follows a slow 1.25M XP grind.

Gallade Weakness

Avg

Gallade's Psychic/Fighting typing leaves it vulnerable to Flying and Ghost moves. Few weaknesses and 2 resistances make the typing clean. Gallade's special bulk (base 115 Sp.Def) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.

Out of 2 evolutions from Kirlia, Gallade comes from the item path. The method you use determines which form you end up with. Breed through Ralts to get eggs. Both Gallade and Gardevoir hit 518 total stats from Ralts. The difference is how those stats are split.

Life Orb and Steadfast form the backbone. Gallade invests max Attack and Speed EVs to play its physical attacker role properly, and Jolly nature pushes Speed higher. Close Combat handles the heavy lifting on offense. The remaining moves rounds it out.

STAB runs through Focus Punch and Close Combat for the basics, but Gallade's real strength is the 12-type coverage spread. Grass and Dark hit common defensive types, and the movepool keeps going.

Gallade doesn't appear wild. Catch Ralts instead, it shows up at decent rates. Evolve it through a special method to get Gallade. The 3-stage chain is mapped in the step cards below.

How to Obtain Gallade in Platinum

To get Gallade, start by catching Ralts through walking and special encounters at Lv. 17-24. The chain covers 2 catchable stages before reaching the final form.

  3. Gallade
    Step 3Gallade
  • We rate Gallade C-Tier — a situational pick that fills a niche. At 518 BST, it fits the wallbreaker role. Base 125 Attack stands out.

  • Watch for Staraptor (Flying) and Dusknoir (Ghost) when using Gallade. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Only 2 weaknesses means fewer dedicated counters to worry about.

  • Kirlia evolves into Gallade using a Dawn Stone. Gallade is the final evolution in a 4-stage line starting from Ralts. At 518 BST, it's got solid stats to work with.

  • Steadfast raises Speed one stage upon flinching — that's the one you want on Gallade. Justified is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses. Sharpness works too if your team needs something different.

  • Base 80 Speed is workable — faster than some, slower than many. On offense, Gallade is a physical attacker with base 125 Attack. Defensively? Enough bulk to take a hit or two. Best used as a wallbreaker.

  • Gallade appears in 14 games, including Platinum, HeartGold & SoulSilver, and Diamond & Pearl.

Obtainable through an item-based evolution, Gallade appears in 14 titles across 6 generations since Diamond & Pearl. The evolution method adds a barrier that wild-catchable Pokemon don't have.
