Stats & Training
Deino's spread isn't flashy. Attack leads, Speed trails, 0 stats clear the bar. Tough to catch and worth 1 Attack EV, on a slow 1.25M XP grind.
They cannot see, so they tackle and bite to learn about their surroundings. Their bodies are covered in wounds.
Lacking sight, it’s unaware of its surroundings, so it bumps into things and eats anything that moves.
Deino Weakness
Fairy, Ice, Fighting, Bug, and Dragon moves hit Deino for super-effective damage. Fairy hits land at 4x, so they're the biggest threat. The upside? Psychic-type moves can't touch it at all. 6 resistances give it solid defensive coverage on top of that.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 4x (Critical) | Fairy |
| 2x (Weak) | Ice, Fighting, Bug, Dragon |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fire, Water, Electric, Grass, Ghost, Dark |
| 0x (Immune) | Psychic |
In X & Y, Latios can KO Deino with Draco Meteor (392-462%). Hitmontop threatens a KO with Close Combat (245-289%).

X & Y Evolution
Deino is the start of a three-stage chain. It evolves into Zweilous first, then eventually reaches Hydreigon. For breeding, takes forever to hatch with a decent partner pool via one egg group. The evolved forms gain up to 300 total stats over Deino. View every chain in the Evolution Chart.
How to Evolve
Breeding
Breed Deino with 50 breeding partners from the Dragon egg group. Pass egg moves like Assurance, Astonish, Dark Pulse and 7 more to offspring.

Moves
Don't skip the egg moves. Deino picks up Assurance and Astonish only through breeding, and both fill gaps the natural movepool can't. STAB runs through Draco Meteor and Outrage while coverage across 8 types adds range.

Level 50 gets you Zweilous. Not the fastest evolution, so consider Exp. Share or route grinding to speed it up.
In X & Y, Deino does the job early-game if you need a Dark/Dragon type on your team. Evolve it into Zweilous before the later gyms and it holds up fine through the story.
You can find Deino in X & Y. The Locations section has the full breakdown of routes and encounter details. It also appears in 7 other games across the series.
Game Availability
Introduced in Black & White, Deino has appeared in 8 games across 6 generations. Later debuts mean fewer total appearances, but it's been a consistent presence since its introduction.
