Cherubi doesn't have much going for it on its own — the stats just aren't there. The payoff is Cherrim, and getting there is worth the grind. Been around since Gen 4. 5 type weaknesses to keep in mind.

Cherubi's spread isn't flashy. Sp. Atk leads, Attack trails, 0 stats clear the bar. Common in the wild and worth 1 Sp. Atk EV, on a medium-fast 1M XP curve.

Sunlight colors it red. When the small ball is drained of nutrients, it shrivels to herald evolution.

X

It evolves by sucking the energy out of the small ball where it had been storing nutrients.

Cherubi Weakness

Fragile

Cherubi is weak to Fire, Ice, Poison, Flying, and Bug-type moves. It resists 4 types, giving it decent defensive coverage. That's a lot of weak spots to cover so team support is important.

Egg moves make a real difference. Cherubi gets Aromatherapy and Defense Curl exclusively through breeding, filling gaps that TMs and level-up can't touch. Normal and Fairy coverage rounds out the picture alongside Solar Beam and Petal Blizzard.

Cherubi can't be caught in X & Y. Bring it over from Diamond or Platinum instead. The encounter info below covers the source games.

Cherubi is not available as a wild encounter in this game.

Also found in:

  • Cherubi isn't fully evolved, so it's not built for competitive play. You'll want to evolve it into Cherrim to unlock its full potential. At 275 BST, it's a stepping stone rather than a team anchor.

  • Cherubi's biggest threats include Charizard (Fire), Cloyster (Ice), and Crobat (Poison), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Flying and Bug-type attackers are also a problem. With 5 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter. At base 35 Speed, Cherubi won't outrun any of these threats so switching to a resist is usually the safer play.

  • Cherubi evolves into Cherrim at level 25. Cherubi is the base form of this evolutionary line.

  • Run Chlorophyll on Cherubi. It's the ability that defines how you build around it and the main reason it holds a competitive niche.

  • Cherubi fills the balanced role. It's a special attacker with base 62 Sp. Atk. Base 35 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. And it's fragile — can't afford to take many hits.

  • Cherubi appears in 12 games, including Platinum, HeartGold & SoulSilver, and Diamond & Pearl.

Cherubi first appeared in Diamond & Pearl and has been available in 12 games across 6 generations. Obtainable through catching or hatching as a base form in most titles where it appears.
