Almost nobody uses Tarountula in battle. It exists to evolve into Spidops, which is a completely different story. Get it there and you won't regret it. Only weak to Fire, Flying, and Rock. Known as the String Ball Pokemon.
You won't find a real weakness in Tarountula's stat line. It's well-rounded for the String Ball Pokemon, and what it does with that depends on moveset and items. Yields 1 Defense EV, on a standard growth curve.
The ball of threads wrapped around its body is elastic enough to deflect the scythes of Scyther, this Pokémon’s natural enemy.
The thread it secretes from its rear is as strong as wire. The secret behind the thread’s strength is the topic of ongoing research.
Tarountula Weakness
AvgFire, Flying, and Rock-type moves hit Tarountula for super-effective damage. Not too many gaps in the chart, 3 weaknesses to account for.
Tarountula is the base form in a two-stage line leading to Spidops. Check the evolution method below. Plenty of partners for breeding via one egg group. Eggs are quick to hatch. The evolved forms gain up to 194 total stats over Tarountula.
How to Evolve
Lead with Tarountula, set Spikes, and keep pressure on. Insomnia and Focus Sash buy the time it needs, with a spread EV build EVs letting it take hits while controlling the hazard game.

The level-up pool is slim, so TMs matter here. Tarountula's Normal and Dark coverage and more all comes from technical machines, built on top of Bug Buzz and Leech Life for same-type damage. Bug Buzz and Take Down are the payoff moves.

At 210 BST, Tarountula is firmly in pre-evolution territory. Evolve it into Spidops before bringing it to any serious fight.
Watch for Cinderace (Fire), Dodrio (Flying), and Aerodactyl (Rock) when using Tarountula. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. At base 20 Speed, Tarountula won't outrun any of these threats so switching to a resist is usually the safer play.
Tarountula evolves into Spidops at level 15. Tarountula is the base form of this evolutionary line.
Insomnia prevents sleep — that's the one you want on Tarountula. Stakeout is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses.
Tarountula is leaning toward the physical side (base 41 Attack). Fragile — can't afford to take many hits, too. But the speed tells the real story — base 20 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. Fits the hazard setter role.
Tarountula can be found in Scarlet & Violet.
Since Scarlet & Violet, Tarountula has been obtainable in 1 games. A Generation 9 debut means a shorter history, but Tarountula has appeared steadily across every generation since.
