Mid-stage Pokemon like Whismur rarely see competitive play outside of special formats. It's a waypoint on the road to Exploud, which is where the real potential kicks in. Ghost moves can't touch it, and only a single type hits it super-effectively. Known as the Whisper Pokemon.

Nothing fancy in Whismur's spread. It leans mixed with HP out front. And you'll get 1 HP EV per KO for it. Follows a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve.

It usually murmurs but starts crying loudly if it senses danger. It stops when its ear covers are shut.

X

If it senses danger, it scares the foe by crying out with the volume of a jet-plane engine.

Whismur Weakness

Good

Fighting-type moves hit Whismur for super-effective damage. The upside? Ghost-type moves can't touch it at all. Whismur's Normal typing only leaves 1 gap to cover.

  • At 240 BST, Whismur is firmly in pre-evolution territory. Evolve it into Loudred before bringing it to any serious fight.

  • Watch for Blaziken (Fighting) when using Whismur. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Only 1 weakness means fewer dedicated counters to worry about. At base 28 Speed, Whismur won't outrun any of these threats so switching to a resist is usually the safer play.

  • Whismur evolves into Loudred at level 20. Whismur is the base form in a 3-stage evolutionary line.

  • Soundproof protects against sound-based moves — that's the one you want on Whismur. Rattled is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses.

  • Whismur is leaning toward the physical side (base 51 Attack). Fragile — can't afford to take many hits, too. But the speed tells the real story — base 28 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go.

  • Whismur appears in 14 games, including Ruby & Sapphire, FireRed & LeafGreen, and Emerald.

Debuting in Ruby & Sapphire, Whismur appears in 14 games across 7 generations. A reliable presence in a solid number of games, typically found through catching or hatching as a base form.
