Everything about Giratina's stat line is built to win. 150 base HP leads the way, and even its worst stat (90 Speed) isn't a real liability. Normal and Fighting moves can't touch it, which offsets the 4 weaknesses somewhat. Known as the Renegade Pokemon.

Raw HP carries Giratina's bulk more than the defenses do. Speed barely registers. But that HP pool covers for it. A near-impossible to catch Renegade Pokemon that yields 3 HP EVs on a slow 1.25M XP grind.

Giratina Weakness

Good

Giratina's Ghost/Dragon typing leaves it vulnerable to Ice, Ghost, Dragon, and Dark moves. It shrugs off Normal and Fighting-type attacks completely. With 6 resistances, the defensive profile is strong. Giratina's overall bulk (150/120/120) lets it take a hit or two from most weaknesses before going down.

Breadth over depth defines this movepool. Giratina won't stack one type's damage ceiling, but coverage across 11 types means it always has an effective option. Draco Meteor and Shadow Force anchor the STAB core.

  • At 680 BST, Giratina is built different. We rank it S-Tier. As a Legendary Pokemon, the raw stats back up the reputation. Best used as a tank.

  • Watch for Weavile (Ice), Dusknoir (Ghost), and Kingdra (Dragon) when using Giratina. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Dark-type attackers are also a problem. Giratina has enough bulk to absorb a hit, but don't push the matchup. Pivot to a teammate that resists.

  • Giratina doesn't evolve. As a Legendary Pokemon, it stands on its own without an evolutionary line. It's a Ghost/Dragon type with 680 BST.

  • Pressure increases the PP cost of moves targetting the Pokémon by one — that's the one you want on Giratina. Telepathy is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses.

  • Base 90 Speed is workable — faster than some, slower than many. On offense, Giratina is a mixed attacker — base 100 Attack and 100 Sp. Atk. Defensively? Tanky enough to absorb a few hits. Best used as a tank.

  • Giratina appears in 13 games, including Platinum, HeartGold & SoulSilver, and Diamond & Pearl.

First obtainable in Diamond & Pearl, Giratina has been featured in 13 titles across 6 generations. Legendary status means a single encounter per playthrough in most games.
