Without Lightning Rod, Togedemaru wouldn't see any competitive play. With it? It redirects Electric moves and boosts its Sp. Atk, turning modest base stats into a real offensive threat. Electric/Steel is solid coverage on top of that. Sits at a decent but contested Speed tier.

Togedemaru's spread isn't flashy. Attack leads, Sp. Atk trails, 2 stats clear the bar. Common in the wild and worth 2 Attack EVs, on a medium-fast 1M XP curve.

With the long hairs on its back, this Pokémon takes in electricity from other electric Pokémon. It stores what it absorbs in an electric sac.

Sword

When it’s in trouble, it curls up into a ball, makes its fur spikes stand on end, and then discharges electricity indiscriminately.

Shield

Togedemaru Weakness

Excellent

Ground, Fire, and Fighting-type moves hit Togedemaru for super-effective damage. Ground hits land at 4x, so they're the biggest threat. The upside? Poison-type moves can't touch it at all. 11 resistances give it solid defensive coverage on top of that. Lightning Rod grants an additional Electric immunity, reshaping the matchup chart. Togedemaru leans offensive (base 98 Atk) rather than trying to tank its weaknesses.

Without TMs, Togedemaru's movepool is bare bones. With them, you get coverage across 8 types on top of Steel Roller and Thunder for STAB. The natural kit handles basics, but TMs are doing the real work.

  • Don't let Togedemaru's 435 base stat total fool you. Lightning Rod is what makes it tick — it punches way above its weight class. We rate it C-Tier.

  • Watch for Garchomp (Ground), Blaziken (Fire), and Lucario (Fighting) when using Togedemaru. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Garchomp is the most dangerous since Ground moves deal 4x damage.

  • Togedemaru doesn't evolve and has no evolutionary line. It's a Electric/Steel-type Pokemon with a 435 base stat total.

  • Run Lightning Rod on Togedemaru. It's the ability that defines how you build around it and the main reason it holds a competitive niche. Togedemaru also gets Iron Barbs and Sturdy, but they don't compare.

  • Togedemaru fills the balanced role. It's a physical attacker with base 98 Attack. Base 96 Speed is workable — faster than some, slower than many. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.

  • Togedemaru can be found in Sword & Shield, Sun & Moon, and Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon.

Introduced in Sun & Moon, Togedemaru has appeared in 3 games across 3 generations. Later debuts mean fewer total appearances, but it's been a consistent presence since its introduction.
