Rocks and terrain features are used in 18 habitats across four categories: boulders, moss, volcanic terrain, and elevated ground. Move boulders with Strength, collect moss from caves, relocate lava with Wooper form, and build on high ground for elevated habitats.
Steps#
- Unlock the Strength skill by completing Machoke's Move Over, Boulder! quest in Rocky Ridges.
- Push and pull boulders by holding A. Rotate objects with the left joystick while pushing.
- Collect moss directly from cave walls in damp areas. Caves are the primary source.
- For lava, use Wooper form to absorb and relocate it from natural lava pools in Rocky Ridges.
- Build on naturally raised terrain like cliffs and hillsides to satisfy the High-up location requirement.
- Find the Smooth Rock item near Onix's cave in Rocky Ridges as a glowing Poke Ball on the ground.
Boulders
Move Large Boulders with the Strength skill from Machoke. Smooth Rock is found near Onix's cave in Rocky Ridges.
Moss
Collected from cave walls in damp areas. Place as tiles for Mossy Rest Spot, Mossy Boulder, and Mossy Hot Spring habitats.
Volcanic
Lava is found naturally in Rocky Ridges. Use Wooper form to absorb and relocate it. Combined with Molten Rock for Piping-Hot Lava habitat.
High-Up Location
Build on naturally raised terrain like cliffs and hillsides. The most common terrain requirement across multiple habitats.

Lava is found naturally in Rocky Ridges. Use Wooper form to absorb and relocate lava tiles, the same way you move water. Combine with Molten Rock for the Piping-Hot Lava habitat.
Any naturally raised terrain like cliffs, hillsides, and elevated platforms. Build your habitat on high ground and the game automatically recognizes it as meeting the High-up location requirement. No special item needed.
Found as a glowing Poke Ball on the ground near Onix's cave in Rocky Ridges. It is not craftable. Used specifically for the Smooth Tall Grass habitat, which must stay dry — place it in a cave to avoid rain.
