Pokopia Dream Islands are floating resource islands you can visit once per day through Drifloon. Hand over a doll, pick an island, and spend the day mining ore, grabbing Stardust, or hunting for Entei. There are 7 dolls and 5 island types, each tied to a main game area with its own material pool. This guide covers every doll, what it unlocks, where to find it, and which legendaries show up on each island.

How to Unlock Dream Islands#

  • Head to the west beach in Withered Wasteland, near the bridge to Palette Town. Drifloon hangs out there once you're far enough in the story.
  • Build the "Riding Warm Updrafts" habitat. Three campfires placed side by side. That's it. Drifloon befriends you once it's built.
  • You'll get the Substitute Doll early on. It sends you to a random island, which is fine for starters.
  • Talk to Drifloon and hand over a doll. Different dolls send you to different islands, so grab more from the Pokemon Center PC or treasure spots as you go.

Five island types, seven dolls. Each island mirrors a region from the main game and drops a specific set of materials you can't always get elsewhere. Ditto and Substitute are wild cards: they roll a random island, which can be good or bad depending on what you need.

Most dolls unlock through the Pokemon Center PC Terminal as you raise your Environment Level. You can also dig them up from glowing blocks using Rock Smash, or find the first two (Eevee and Pikachu) in specific Bleak Beach locations.

Four legendaries can spawn on Pokopia Dream Islands: Entei, Suicune, Raikou, and Mewtwo. Each one shows up on a specific island type (check the table below). Spawn rates are low, so don't expect to find one on your first trip. Some require you to have met them during the story first.

  • Find Drifloon on the west beach in Withered Wasteland. Build the "Riding Warm Updrafts" habitat (three campfires side by side) and Drifloon becomes your ride. You'll get a Substitute Doll to start, which takes you to a random island.

  • Five types: Wasteland, Ocean, Rock Peak, Volcanic, and Sky. Each one matches a main game area and drops different materials. The Ditto and Substitute dolls are wildcards that roll a random island from the five.

  • No. Once you pick an island type, you're stuck with it for the day. Switching dolls won't help. You can go back to that same island as many times as you want, but materials only respawn the next day.

  • A crafting material that only drops on Dream Islands. You won't find it anywhere in the main game. It's mainly used for Cloud Island multiplayer crafting, so prioritize it once you start playing online.

  • Depends on what you need. Arcanine's Volcanic island is the ore farming spot (Iron + Gold in one trip). Dragonite's Sky island is where endgame players go for Pokemetal and Crystal Fragments. Early game, Eevee's Wasteland island gives you Leppa Berries and Vine Rope, both useful for starter recipes.

  • Entei (Volcanic/Arcanine), Suicune (Wasteland/Eevee), Raikou (Ocean/Pikachu), and Mewtwo (Random/Ditto). Entei is Dream Island only, so you can't find it in the story. Raikou and Mewtwo need a prior story encounter before they'll spawn. Suicune just shows up when it feels like it.

  • Totally separate features. Dream Islands are single-player daily runs for materials and legendaries, accessed through Drifloon. Cloud Islands are multiplayer custom islands that need Nintendo Switch Online. Different inventories, different shops, different purpose. The only link is that Stardust from Dream Islands helps with Cloud Island crafting.
