Crafting in Pokopia runs through workbenches. You pick up raw materials like Sturdy Sticks, Stones, and Small Logs from the overworld, then combine them at a workbench to build furniture, outdoor items, and utility tools. Some materials need processing first by Pokemon with the right specialties before they'll work in recipes.
What you build here feeds directly into the habitat system. Furniture inside buildings raises Pokemon comfort. Utility items like the Storage Box keep your inventory from overflowing. And the Workbench itself? Also a crafted item. Just 2 Stones to make your first one.
Crafting is the core building system in Pokopia. Everything you make — furniture, tools, paths, lighting — goes through a Workbench using raw materials gathered from the overworld. Understanding how crafting works early saves hours of backtracking later.
The Workbench#
The Workbench is your primary crafting station. Walk up to one, interact with it, and you will see all your known recipes. Select a recipe, confirm you have the materials, and the item is crafted instantly.
Your very first Workbench costs just 2 Stones — one of the first things Professor Tangrowth teaches you. Place multiple Workbenches near different material sources to cut down on travel time.
The Storage Box Trick#
Place a Storage Box directly next to your Workbench. When you craft, the Workbench will automatically pull materials from adjacent Storage Boxes. This means you do not need to carry every material in your personal inventory — just keep your storage stocked and craft freely. This is one of the most frequently cited tips in the Pokopia community.
Move-Gated Materials#
Many materials require specific Ditto moves to gather. You need Cut (from Scyther) to chop trees for Small Logs and Lumber. Rock Smash (from Hitmonchan) breaks boulders for Stone. Leafage (from Bulbasaur) grows grass you can harvest for Leaves.
This creates a natural progression: you must befriend the right Pokemon to learn the right moves before you can access higher-tier materials.
Crafting Categories#
Pokopia organizes recipes into seven categories. Furniture items go inside buildings and boost Pokemon comfort levels. Outdoor items like campfires and fences decorate the environment. Utility items (Workbench, Storage Box, Railway Track) serve functional purposes. Building covers structural pieces like stairs, ladders, and columns. Blocks are bulk construction materials produced in stacks of 10 per craft. Miscellaneous includes decorative odds and ends like fireworks and toy blocks. Other covers specialty items that sit outside the main categories.
Build a Workbench. It costs 2 Stones, which you can pick up almost anywhere by pressing Y near the ground. Once it's placed, interact with it to see your available recipes. You'll only see items you have enough materials for.
It lets the Workbench pull materials from the box instead of just your inventory. Huge quality-of-life move, especially once you're carrying a bunch of different resources and your pockets are full. Build a Storage Box early (1 Lumber) and drop it right next to where you craft.
Some recipes call for processed materials instead of raw ones. Lumber is the main one you'll run into. You can't just pick it up. Get Small Logs first by using Cut on trees, then bring them to a Pokemon with the Chop specialty (Scyther works). It'll convert the logs into Lumber for recipes like the Storage Box.
Yes, and you should. Each one only costs 2 Stones. Put one near your main building area and another close to wherever you're farming materials. Saves the walk back.
Seven categories across 500 confirmed recipes: Furniture, Outdoor, Utility, Building, Blocks, Miscellaneous, and Other. Furniture boosts Pokemon comfort inside buildings. Outdoor items decorate the overworld. Utility covers functional tools like the Workbench and Storage Box. Building handles structural pieces. Blocks produce bulk construction materials (10 per craft). Some recipes require four or five different materials.
