Digging at shiny dirt spots will eventually turn up fossil fragments. Pokopia has 22 of them across 5 multi-part sets and 4 standalone pieces. Each set (like the 5-piece Wing Fossil or 4-piece Despot Fossil) needs every fragment before Professor Tangrowth can assemble the complete skeleton. It's a long hunt, but completed fossils become displayable Collectible Artifacts.

How to Excavate Fossils#

  • Look for shiny dirt spots. These are sparkling patches on the ground, scattered throughout the island.
  • Walk up to the spot and interact to dig. You may unearth a fossil fragment, lost relic, or other item.
  • Shiny dirt spots respawn periodically, so revisit areas you've already explored.
  • Keep digging across all areas. Different fossil sets may appear in different regions.

Once you've collected all parts of a fossil set, Professor Tangrowth can assemble and appraise them. Completed fossils become display items that can be placed on your island as decorations, adding to your collectible count.

  • Bring all fragments of a set to Professor Tangrowth for assembly.
  • Assembled fossils appear as Collectible Artifacts in your collection.
  • Display them in your home or museum area for decoration.
  • Standalone fossils (Armor, Jaw, Sail, Skull) can be appraised individually. No multi-part assembly needed.
  • 22 fossil fragments spread across 5 multi-part sets (Despot 4pc, Headbutt 3pc, Shield 3pc, Tundra 3pc, Wing 5pc) plus 4 standalone fossils (Armor, Jaw, Sail, Skull).

  • Dig at shiny dirt spots, the sparkling patches on the ground scattered across the island. Each spot can yield fossil fragments, lost relics, or other items.

  • Yes. Multi-part fossil sets (like the Wing Fossil with 5 pieces) require all fragments to be collected before Professor Tangrowth can assemble the complete fossil for display.

  • Bring fossil fragments to Professor Tangrowth for appraisal and assembly. Completed fossils become Collectible Artifacts that can be displayed as decorations on your island.

  • Yes. Shiny dirt spots respawn periodically across the island, so keep revisiting areas you've already explored. Different regions may yield different types of fossils.

  • The Wing Fossil set has 5 parts (body, head, left wing, right wing, tail), making it the most difficult to finish. Other sets have 3 or 4 pieces. More fragments means more digging before you can assemble it.
