Is Tauros Good in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl Playthrough?

Underground Normal-type. AbilityIntimidate lowers Attack on switch-in, and the Speed/Attack combo is strong for mid-game. No strong gym matchups but never a bad matchup either. Consistent contributor that doesn't dominate.

Tauros Weakness

Tauros is weak to Fighting. On the flip side, it's immune to Ghost-type moves entirely. Tauros's physical bulk (base 95 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond / Pokemon Shining Pearl

Tauros Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl Guide

  • In Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, Tauros looks average on paper at 490 BST. But Intimidate is why it sees play. Build around that and it pulls its weight. C-Tier support on our tier list. Earthquake with Lum Berry is the standard set.

  • In Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, Tauros's biggest threats include Machamp (Fighting), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Only 1 weakness means fewer dedicated counters to worry about.

  • Tauros gets Intimidate, Anger Point, and Sheer Force. But Intimidate is the one that matters. It's the centerpiece of every viable set. Build around that.

  • Tauros is a physical attacker with base 100 Attack. Enough bulk to take a hit or two, too. Speed tells the real story. Base 110 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. Fits the support role.

  • For Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, the core moveset is Earthquake, Body Slam, Stone Edge, and Ironhead. Earthquake leads at 0% usage. This set covers the support role with a mix of damage and utility.

Game Availability

Available since Red & Blue, Tauros appears in 20 games spanning 10 generations. Beyond its original form, it gained a Paldean form in Generation 9.
