Talonflame Best Moveset
126 Speed on Fire/Flying with AbilityGale Wings giving priority to Flying moves at full HP. Held ItemHeavy Duty Boots blocks TermEntry Hazards to keep HP at full for Gale Wings activation. NatureJolly runs priority MoveBrave Bird that ignores Speed tiers entirely. The moveset clears hazards with Defog and fires priority from any position. B-Tier because Gale Wings priority reshapes how teams play against it.
Gale Wings gave priority to all Flying moves at full HP in Gen VI (X & Y). Priority Brave Bird from 81 Attack shouldn't work, but +1 priority made it devastating. Top tier on debut.

Gale Wings nerfed to only work at full HP in Gen VII (Sun & Moon). One chip from Stealth Rock disabled the priority. Fell immediately without the guaranteed first strike.

Two gens of decline in Gen VIII (Sword & Shield). Heavy-Duty Boots preserved full HP on switch, re-enabling Gale Wings. But the format had moved on to harder hitters.

Dropped slightly in Gen IX (Scarlet & Violet). Boots plus Gale Wings still worked, but 81 Attack couldn't keep up with the format's defensive bulk. Three gens since the peak.

Talonflame Weakness
Talonflame's Fire/Flying typing leaves it vulnerable to Rock, Water, and Electric. Rock hits land at 4x, so they're the biggest threat. It shrugs off Ground-type attacks completely. 6 resistances give it solid defensive coverage on top of that.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 4x (Critical) | Rock |
| 2x (Weak) | Water, Electric |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fire, Fighting, Steel, Fairy |
| 0.25x (Resist) | Grass, Bug |
| 0x (Immune) | Ground |

Base Stats
Talonflame's built around mixed offense. Speed leads the charge, Sp. Def pays for it. Tough to catch, worth 3 Speed EVs. Follows a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve.
It has top-notch flying capabilities. It flies around easily, even while carrying prey that weighs more than 220 lbs.
Talonflame Guide
Talonflame has a 499 base stat total and ranks as C-Tier: a situational pick that fills a niche. It works best as a support. Base 126 Speed is where it shines.
Watch for Rhyperior (Rock), Milotic (Water), and Jolteon (Electric) when using Talonflame. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Rhyperior is the most dangerous since Rock moves deal 4x damage. Talonflame's base 126 Speed lets it outpace many threats and strike first, which matters more than trying to tank hits.
Flame Body has a 30% chance of burning attacking Pokémon on contact. That's the one you want on Talonflame. Gale Wings is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses.
Talonflame fills the support role. It's a mixed attacker with base 81 Attack and 74 Sp. Atk. Base 126 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.
Run Defog, Roost, Will O Wisp, and Bravebird on Talonflame. Defog is the most common pick at 0% usage. This set covers the support role with a mix of damage and utility.
Game Availability
Introduced in X & Y, Talonflame has appeared in 7 games across 5 generations. Later debuts mean fewer total appearances, but it's been a consistent presence since its introduction.
