Is Seadra Good in Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire Playthrough?

Solid Water-type on its own, but the real target is Kingdra through Dragon Scale trade. Water/Dragon now has a Fairy weakness in ORAS, but Kingdra still clears Drake and contributes against Steven. Worth the trade.

Pokedex Entry

Seadra sleeps after wriggling itself between the branches of coral. Those trying to harvest coral are occasionally stung by this Pokémon’s poison barbs if they fail to notice it.

Seadra generates whirlpools by spinning its body. The whirlpools are strong enough to swallow even fishing boats. This Pokémon weakens prey with these currents, then swallows it whole.

Seadra Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire Guide

  • In Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire, Seadra isn't fully evolved, so it's not built for competitive play. You'll want to evolve it into Kingdra to unlock its full potential. At 440 BST, it's a stepping stone rather than a team anchor.

  • In Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire, watch for Raikou (Electric) and Venusaur (Grass) when using Seadra. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Only 2 weaknesses means fewer dedicated counters to worry about.

  • No. Seadra only evolves into Kingdra through a real trade. There is no in-game alternative in Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire. Trade needs a Game Boy Advance link cable and a second GBA running another Gen 3 game (FireRed, LeafGreen, Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald). Trade Seadra to a friend, then have them trade it back. The 2026 Switch re-release supports the same trade through local wireless on the Pokemon Center 2F Wireless Club, with no cables required. The Dragon Scale must be held during the trade. Bring one over from a sibling Gen 3 game if needed.

  • Poison Point has a 30% chance of poisoning attacking Pokémon on contact. That's the one you want on Seadra. Damp is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses. Sniper works too if your team needs something different.

  • In Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire, Seadra fills the balanced role. It's a special attacker with base 95 Sp. Atk. Base 85 Speed is workable. Faster than some, slower than many.

Game Availability

Seadra has been part of the series since Red & Blue, appearing in 20 titles across all 10 generations. As a Gen 1 original, it's one of the most consistently available Pokemon in the franchise.
