How to Get Rhyhorn in Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire
The chain to Rhyhorn requires a trade evolution through a trade. Catch Rhyhorn in the wild and level through the stages, but line up the trade first. The rest of the chain runs on levels alone.
Rhyhorn Weakness
Rhyhorn's Ground/Rock typing leaves it vulnerable to Water, Grass, Ice, Fighting, Ground, and Steel. Water and Grass hits land at 4x, so they're the biggest threat. It shrugs off Electric-type attacks completely. It resists 5 types, giving it decent defensive coverage. Lightning Rod grants an additional Electric immunity, reshaping the matchup chart. Rhyhorn's physical bulk (base 95 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 4x (Critical) | Water, Grass |
| 2x (Weak) | Ice, Fighting, Ground, Steel |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Normal, Fire, Flying, Rock |
| 0.25x (Resist) | Poison |
| 0x (Immune) | Electric |

Rhyhorn Evolutions
Rhyhorn is the start of a three-stage chain. It evolves into Rhydon first, then eventually reaches Rhyperior. For breeding, average hatch time with a massive partner pool via two egg groups. The evolved forms gain up to 190 total stats over Rhyhorn. View every chain in the Evolution Chart.
How to Evolve
Breeding
Breed Rhyhorn easily with 200 breeding partners from the Ground and Monster egg groups. Pass egg moves like Counter, Crunch, Crush Claw and 13 more to offspring.
ORAS Rhyhorn Best Moveset
Ground/Rock at 85 Attack. AbilityLightning Rod absorbs Electric and AbilityRock Head removes recoil. The moveset fires at pre-evolution power. Rhydon one evolution away adds 130 Attack, and Rhyperior after that brings 140 Attack.

Rhyhorn best EVs are Sp. Atk and Sp. Def

Moves List
Breadth over depth defines this movepool. Rhyhorn won't stack one type's damage ceiling, but coverage across 11 types means it always has an effective option. Stone Edge and Earthquake anchor the STAB core.

How the move deals damage and which stats it uses.
A small dot on the icon's corner marks the move as contact. That triggers abilities like Static, Flame Body, Rough Skin, or Iron Barbs, plus items like Rocky Helmet and Sticky Barb.
Tier (S to D)
Each move's competitive rank in RankedBoost's system. TM, Egg, and Tutor sort by tier by default (best first). On Level-Up, click the Tier header to do the same.
PWR (Power)
Base damage. Numbers shown in a type color include STAB (base × 1.5). Hover any colored number to see the math.

Base Stats
Rhyhorn runs in a straight line, smashing everything in its path. It is not bothered even if it rushes headlong into a block of steel. This Pokémon may feel some pain from the collision the next day, however.
Rhyhorn’s brain is very small. It is so dense, while on a run it forgets why it started running in the first place. It apparently remembers sometimes if it demolishes something.
Rhyhorn Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire Guide
- Where in the Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire Safari Zone can I find Rhyhorn?
See the Locations section above for where to find Rhyhorn in Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire.
Safari rules: You can only use Safari Balls. No battling. Two tactical items shift the catch/flee trade-off:
- Throw bait to keep Rhyhorn from fleeing (flee rate cut to 1/4) but it becomes harder to catch (catch factor halved).
- Throw a rock to make Rhyhorn easier to catch (catch factor doubled) but it flees twice as often.
- Each effect lasts 2-6 random turns; throwing one cancels the other.
In Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire, Rhyhorn does the job early-game if you need a Ground/Rock type on your team. Evolve it into Rhydon before the later gyms and it holds up fine through the story.
