Quagsire Best Moveset
AbilityUnaware ignores every stat boost the opponent has, which shuts down setup-based strategies entirely. Water/Ground TermStab covers most matchups and only Grass hits super-effectively. Held ItemLeftovers with NatureImpish at 95 HP absorbs physical hits. The moveset checks things it has no business surviving because it pretends their boosts don't exist.
Water/Ground with only Grass as a weakness in Gen II (Gold & Silver). Earthquake plus Surf covered most threats, and the typing was just excellent defensively.

Unaware was still useful in Gen VI (X & Y) but Quagsire's stats were genuinely low. It walled boosted threats, but unboosted Grass attackers destroyed it.

Unaware stayed relevant in Gen IX (Scarlet & Violet). The metagame always had setup sweepers, and Quagsire was always there to ignore them.

Quagsire Weakness
Quagsire's Water/Ground typing leaves it vulnerable to Grass. Grass hits land at 4x, so they're the biggest threat. It shrugs off Electric-type attacks completely. It resists 4 types, giving it decent defensive coverage. Water Absorb grants an additional Water immunity, reshaping the matchup chart. With 95 HP and balanced defenses, Quagsire can afford to eat a neutral hit or two.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 4x (Critical) | Grass |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fire, Poison, Rock, Steel |
| 0x (Immune) | Electric |

Base Stats
Quagsire's spread favors physical bulk over offense. HP leads the defensive side, Speed eats the cost. Yields 2 HP EVs per defeat. Medium-fast 1M XP curve to level.
It has an easygoing nature. It doesn’t care if it bumps its head on boats and boulders while swimming.
Quagsire Guide
Watch for Exeggutor (Grass) when using Quagsire. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Exeggutor is the most dangerous since Grass moves deal 4x damage. Only 1 weakness means fewer dedicated counters to worry about. At base 35 Speed, Quagsire won't outrun any of these threats so switching to a resist is usually the safer play.
It depends on your team. Quagsire at 430 BST isn't a powerhouse, but the Water/Ground coverage might be exactly what you're missing.
Don't let Quagsire's 430 base stat total fool you. Unaware is what makes it tick. It punches way above its weight class. We rate it C-Tier as a support.
Run Unaware on Quagsire. It's the ability that defines how you build around it and the main reason it holds a competitive niche. Quagsire also gets Damp and Water Absorb, but they don't compare.
Quagsire's hidden ability is Unaware. Ignores other Pokémon's stat modifiers for damage and accuracy calculation. Better than the standard options for competitive play.
Game Availability
Quagsire first appeared in Gold & Silver and has been available in 17 games across 9 generations. Obtainable through wild encounters in most titles where it appears.
