Omanyte Weakness
Type-wise, Omanyte takes extra damage from Grass, Electric, Fighting, and Ground. Watch out for Grass attacks, those deal 4x damage. It resists 5 types, giving it decent defensive coverage. Omanyte's physical bulk (base 100 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.

Omanyte Evolutions
Omanyte evolves into Omastar. It's a two-stage chain with the method shown below. Plenty of partners for breeding via two egg groups. Eggs are slow to hatch. Evolving adds up to 140 stat points total. View every chain in the Evolution Chart.
How to Evolve
Breeding

The egg pool carries weight here. Aurora Beam and Bide aren't available any other way for Omanyte, and they meaningfully change what it threatens. Stack those on top of Hydro Pump and Surf for solid options.

Each move's competitive rank in RankedBoost's system. TM, Egg, and Tutor sort by tier by default (best first). On Level-Up, click the Tier header to do the same.

Base Stats
Omanyte lived in the seas of antiquity. Its fossils have been found bearing bite marks from Archeops, so apparently Archeops preyed on it.
It was restored from an ancient fossil. Those Helix Fossils are excavated from areas that were once oceans long, long ago.
Omanyte Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon Guide
In Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon, Omanyte isn't fully evolved, so it's not built for competitive play. You'll want to evolve it into Omastar to unlock its full potential. At 355 BST, it's a stepping stone rather than a team anchor.
In Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon, Omanyte's biggest threats include Venusaur (Grass), Jolteon (Electric), and Hitmonlee (Fighting), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Venusaur is the most dangerous since Grass moves deal 4x damage. Ground-type attackers are also a problem. At base 35 Speed, Omanyte won't outrun any of these threats so switching to a resist is usually the safer play.
Restore from a fossil at the Fossil Restoration Center on Route 8. Omanyte is revived at level 5. Give it Rare Candies or experience-share if you want it ready for the late-game.
In Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon, Run Swift Swim on Omanyte. It's the ability that defines how you build around it and the main reason it holds a competitive niche. Omanyte also gets Shell Armor and Weak Armor, but they don't compare.
In Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon, Omanyte fills the trick room role. It's a mixed attacker with base 40 Attack and 90 Sp. Atk. Base 35 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go.
Game Availability
Omanyte has been part of the series since Red & Blue, appearing in 19 titles across all 10 generations. As a Gen 1 original, it's one of the most consistently available Pokemon in the franchise.
