How to Get Mewtwo in Legends: Z-A

Mewtwo can't be caught in Legends: Z-A. Bring it over from Red & Blue, Yellow, or Let's Go Pikachu & Eevee instead. The encounter info below covers the source games.

Mewtwo cannot be caught in the wild in Legends: Z-A, but you can still get it via these paths:

Historic Event Distribution

Mewtwo was originally distributed via Mystery Gift event during Legends: Z-A's lifecycle. The event has long since ended, but Pokemon obtained through it remain legitimate and can be traded from a preserved save file.

Mewtwo Weakness

Type-wise, Mewtwo takes extra damage from Bug, Ghost, and Dark. Mewtwo's special bulk (base 120 Sp.Def) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A

Mewtwo Legends: Z-A Guide

  • In Legends: Z-A, Mewtwo is a Legendary Pokemon rated S-Tier. At 780 BST, it hits hard. It excels as a sweeper. Psystrike with Life Orb is the standard set.

  • Mega Evolution isn't available in Legends: Z-A, but Mewtwo does have a Mega form in Gen 6-7 games (X/Y, ORAS, Sun/Moon). Mega Mewtwo hits 880 BST.

  • In Legends: Z-A, Mewtwo's biggest threats include Scyther (Bug), Misdreavus (Ghost), and Tyranitar (Dark), all carrying super-effective STAB moves.

  • Insomnia is the go-to ability for Mewtwo. It prevents sleep. It's Mewtwo's only ability.

  • In Legends: Z-A, Mewtwo fills the sweeper role. It's a special attacker with base 194 Sp. Atk. Base 140 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. And it's tanky enough to absorb a few hits.

Game Availability

Mewtwo has appeared in 21 games since Red & Blue, spanning 10 generations. As a Legendary, it's typically a one-per-save encounter tied to the story or post-game content.
