Mew Best Moveset
100 across every stat with access to nearly every move in the game. AbilitySynchronize passes status conditions back. Held ItemLeftovers with NatureTimid at 100 Speed runs support, offense, or anything the team needs. The moveset changes completely based on what role is missing. Tera lets it become any type. The most flexible teambuilding option available.
100 in every stat and access to every TM in Gen I (Red & Blue). Mew could run any set — physical, special, support, status. Completely unpredictable.
Best Moves
Best Build
Support Moveset
- Soft Boiled
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake
- Explosion
Same learn-everything versatility in Gen II (Gold & Silver). Baton Pass, Swords Dance, coverage from every type. Opponents never knew what was coming.
Utility Moveset
- Psychic
- Dream Eater
- Hyper Beam
- Rest
Still restricted in Gen III (Ruby & Sapphire). Teams couldn't prepare for Mew because they never knew what set it was running. Too unpredictable for standard play.
Bulky Support Moveset
- Explosion
- Thunder Wave
- Fire Blast
- Thunder
Recommended Teammates
Four gens restricted. Transform, Nasty Plot, Tailwind, Stealth Rock in Gen IV (Diamond & Pearl). Mew did whatever the team needed, and 100 base stats made every role viable.
Pivot Moveset
- Taunt
- Explosion
- U Turn
- Stealth Rock
Recommended Teammates
Dropped for the first time in Gen V (Black & White). Power creep made 100 stats merely average, and dedicated Pokemon did each individual role better. Jack of all trades, master of none.
Special Sweeper Moveset
- Ice Beam
- Thunderbolt
- Psychic
- Flamethrower
Recommended Teammates
Back on top in Gen VI (X & Y). Defog gave Mew another support tool, and its insane movepool kept it relevant where specialist Pokemon couldn't adapt.
Hazard Setter Moveset
- Stealth Rock
- Defog
- Taunt
- Explosion
Recommended Teammates
Dropped again in Gen VII (Sun & Moon). Z-Moves favored Pokemon that committed to one role, not generalists that spread themselves thin.
Hazard Setter Moveset
- Stealth Rock
- Taunt
- Ice Beam
- Thunder Wave
Recommended Teammates
Back up in Gen VIII (Sword & Shield). Mew's unpredictability was still its greatest weapon. Opponents couldn't prepare for a Pokemon that could be anything.
Hazard Setter Moveset
- Spikes
- Stealth Rock
- Taunt
- Thunder Wave
Recommended Teammates
Three drops across nine gens in Gen IX (Scarlet & Violet), and each time Mew bounced back. But 100 base stats were finally settling below the format's power floor.
Special Attacker Moveset
- Transform
- Imprison
- Ice Beam
Recommended Teammates
Mew Weakness
Mew's Psychic typing leaves it vulnerable to Bug, Ghost, and Dark. Mew's overall bulk (100/100/100) lets it take a hit or two from most weaknesses before going down.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Bug, Ghost, Dark |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fighting, Psychic |

Base Stats
An unusually even spread gives Mew flexibility. HP barely edges ahead. But any other stat isn't far off. Tough to catch and follows a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve. Yields 3 HP EVs.
It’s very intelligent and can use an incredible variety of moves. Many believe that all other Pokémon are descendants of this one.
Mew Guide
At 600 BST, Mew is built different. We rank it B-Tier. As a Mythical Pokemon, the raw stats back up the reputation. Best used as a sweeper.
Synchronize copies burns, paralysis, and poison received onto the Pokémon that inflicted them. That's the one you want on Mew. It's the only ability Mew has.
Base 100 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. On offense, Mew is a special attacker with base 100 Sp. Atk. Defensively? Tanky enough to absorb a few hits. Best used as a sweeper.
Mew has answers, but so do you. Priority moves (Mach Punch, Aqua Jet, Ice Shard) bypass its speed. Bulky walls that resist its STAB also shut it down.
Game Availability
Mew first appeared in Red & Blue and has been available in 20 titles. Mythical distribution means event-only access in most games, making it one of the harder Pokemon to collect.
