No wild encounters for Exeggcute in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl. Bring Exeggcute over from Red & Blue, Yellow, or Gold & Silver, then level through the stages. Each step in the chain is laid out below.
Type-wise, Exeggcute takes extra damage from Bug, Fire, Ice, Poison, Flying, Ghost, and Dark. Watch out for Bug attacks, those deal 4x damage. 6 resistances give it solid defensive coverage on top of that. Exeggcute's physical bulk (base 80 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.
In Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, Scizor's Knock Off hits Exeggcute for 61-71%. Blaziken threatens a KO with Flare Blitz (158-186%). Gengar's Sludge Bomb also KOs at 143-169%.

60 Sp. Atk at 40 Speed on a Grass/Psychic pre-evo with AbilityChlorophyll for sun doubling and hidden AbilityHarvest cycling berries. The moveset can't compete at these stats. One evolution from Exeggutor where 125 Sp. Atk gives those abilities a real platform.
Breeding's the move. Ancient Power and Block give Exeggcute options it can't learn any other way, and Normal and Poison coverage and more already covers a decent range on top of Leaf Storm and Solar Beam. The egg moves push it further.
