Cursola Best Moveset

Cursola runs a standard defensive wall set. Calm nature with max HP and Sp. Def EVs shapes the build, while Leftovers brings passive recovery each turn. Perishbody supports the kit from the background.

Gen VIII — Sword & Shield / BDSPE

Cursola saw minimal competitive use in Gen VIII (Sword & Shield / BDSP). This was Cursola's competitive peak. Its most popular set ran Perishbody with Life Orb, favoring a Modest nature.

Cursola Weakness

Cursola is weak to Ghost and Dark. On the flip side, it's immune to Normal and Fighting-type moves entirely. Cursola's special bulk (base 130 Sp.Def) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.

Cursola Guide

  • Cursola has a 510 base stat total and ranks as B-Tier: a solid choice for the right team. It works best as a wallbreaker. Base 145 Sp. Atk is where it shines.

  • Cursola's biggest threats include Gengar (Ghost) and Houndoom (Dark), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Only 2 weaknesses means fewer dedicated counters to worry about. At base 30 Speed, Cursola won't outrun any of these threats so switching to a resist is usually the safer play.

  • Weak Armor is the go-to ability for Cursola. It raises Speed and lowers Defense by one stage each upon being hit by a physical move. Its hidden ability Perish Body can work in specific setups.

  • Cursola fills the wallbreaker role. It's a special attacker with base 145 Sp. Atk. Base 30 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.

  • The core moveset is Shadow Ball, Earthpower, Strengthsap, and Will O Wisp. Shadow Ball leads at 0% usage. This set covers the wallbreaker role with a mix of damage and utility.

Game Availability

Introduced in Sword & Shield, Cursola has appeared in 2 games across 3 generations. Later debuts mean fewer total appearances, but it's been a consistent presence since its introduction.
