Crawdaunt Best Moveset
AbilityAdaptability doubles TermStab from 1.5x to 2x, turning 120 Attack behind Water/Dark coverage into raw damage that few Pokemon can absorb. Held ItemChoice Band with NatureAdamant pushes the physical output beyond what most defensive answers handle. MoveAqua Jet priority bypasses the 55 Speed. The moveset is a wallbreaker that ends games in two hits.
Water/Dark with poor 63 Speed in Gen III (Ruby & Sapphire). Crabhammer and Crunch were decent STAB but Crawdaunt was too slow to use them effectively.
Special Tank Moveset
- Brick Break
- Crabhammer
- Knock Off
- Ice Beam

Same Speed problem in Gen IV (Diamond & Pearl). Dragon Dance existed but 63 Speed after one boost still wasn't fast enough to sweep.
Physical Revenge Killer Moveset
- Crunch
- Waterfall
- Superpower
- X Scissor

Adaptability arrived and doubled the STAB bonus in Gen V (Black & White). Crabhammer and Knock Off went from 1.5x to 2x power. Every STAB move hit like a nuke.
Utility Moveset
- Crunch
- Crabhammer
- Superpower
- Brick Break

Aqua Jet provided priority that fixed the Speed problem in Gen VI (X & Y). Swords Dance plus Adaptability Aqua Jet and Knock Off. One of the scariest wallbreakers around.

Same Adaptability formula in Gen VII (Sun & Moon). Knock Off removed items while dealing massive boosted damage. Two gens at A-Tier built on raw power.
Physical Sweeper Moveset
- Aqua Jet

Three gens of consistent performance in Gen VIII (Sword & Shield). Crawdaunt didn't need Speed when Adaptability Aqua Jet hit that hard after Swords Dance.

Dropped slightly in Gen IX (Scarlet & Violet). The format's power level meant even Adaptability-boosted priority wasn't quite the force it used to be.

- Aqua Jet
- Knock Off
- Crabhammer
- Close Combat

Crawdaunt Weakness
Type-wise, Crawdaunt takes extra damage from Electric, Grass, Fighting, Bug, and Fairy. Psychic moves do nothing thanks to a full immunity. 6 resistances give it solid defensive coverage on top of that. Crawdaunt's physical bulk (base 85 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Electric, Grass, Fighting, Bug, Fairy |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fire, Water, Ice, Ghost, Dark, Steel |
| 0x (Immune) | Psychic |

Base Stats
Crawdaunt's built around physical offense. Attack leads the charge, Sp. Def pays for it. Common in the wild, worth 2 Attack EVs. Follows a standard growth curve.
It is a ruffian that uses its pincers to pick up and toss out other Pokémon from its pond.
Crawdaunt Guide
Don't let Crawdaunt's 468 base stat total fool you. Adaptability is what makes it tick. It punches way above its weight class. We rate it C-Tier as a cannon.
Run Adaptability on Crawdaunt. It's the ability that defines how you build around it and the main reason it holds a competitive niche. Crawdaunt also gets Hyper Cutter and Shell Armor, but they don't compare.
Crawdaunt fills the cannon role. It's a physical attacker with base 120 Attack. At base 55 Speed, it won't be moving first often. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.
The core moveset is Aqua Jet, Knock Off, Crabhammer, and Close Combat. Aqua Jet leads at 0% usage. Crabhammer provides reliable STAB damage.
Game Availability
Crawdaunt first appeared in Ruby & Sapphire and has been available in 15 games across 8 generations. Obtainable through wild encounters in most titles where it appears.
