Avalugg Best Moveset
184 Defense is one of the highest in the entire game. Pure Ice at 117 Attack behind AbilitySturdy guaranteeing one hit survived. Held ItemHeavy Duty Boots with NatureImpish blocks hazards and maximizes the physical wall. The moveset absorbs physical damage indefinitely and fires Ice TermStab at 117 Attack. 46 Sp. Def collapses to any special hit. C-Tier as a one-dimensional physical wall.
184 Defense was among the highest in the game in Gen VI (X & Y). Ice-type meant special attacks bypassed it. 46 Sp. Def was the other side of the coin.

Fell in Gen VII (Sun & Moon). 184 Defense on Ice-type was bulk that didn't count where it mattered. Too many special attackers and type weaknesses.

Same in Gen VIII (Sword & Shield). Heavy-Duty Boots didn't help because Stealth Rock wasn't the problem. Special moves were.

Rose in Gen IX (Scarlet & Violet). Ice typing with Sturdy and Rapid Spin gave a hazard removal role. Best competitive gen for the ice wall.

Avalugg Weakness
Fire, Fighting, Rock, and Steel moves hit Avalugg for super-effective damage. Avalugg's physical bulk (base 184 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.

Base Stats
The stat bars tell the story: Defense carries everything and Speed's dead weight. But this Iceberg Pokemon still yields 2 Defense EVs per fight on a medium-fast 1M XP curve.
As Avalugg walks along with Bergmite on its back, it comes across pods of Cetitan. It lets them pass to avoid conflict.
Avalugg Guide
Avalugg works as a wallbreaker with 514 BST behind it. B-Tier on our list: a solid choice for the right team. That 184 base Defense does the heavy lifting.
Watch for Infernape (Fire), Conkeldurr (Fighting), and Golem (Rock) when using Avalugg. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Steel-type attackers are also a problem. At base 28 Speed, Avalugg won't outrun any of these threats so switching to a resist is usually the safer play.
Own Tempo prevents confusion. That's the one you want on Avalugg. Sturdy is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses. Ice Body works too if your team needs something different.
Avalugg is a physical attacker with base 117 Attack. Tanky enough to absorb a few hits, too. Speed tells the real story. Base 28 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. Fits the wallbreaker role.
Run Bodypress, Recover, Rapid Spin, and Avalanche on Avalugg. Bodypress is the most common pick at 0% usage. Avalanche provides reliable STAB damage.
Game Availability
