Appletun Guide

  • Appletun looks average on paper at 485 BST. But Thick Fat is why it sees play. Build around that and it pulls its weight. C-Tier attacker on our tier list.

  • Appletun's biggest threats include Walrein (Ice), Crobat (Poison), and Staraptor (Flying), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Walrein is the most dangerous since Ice moves deal 4x damage. Bug, Dragon, and Fairy-type attackers are also a problem. With 6 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter. At base 30 Speed, Appletun won't outrun any of these threats so switching to a resist is usually the safer play.

  • Appletun gets Thick Fat, Ripen, and Gluttony. But Thick Fat is the one that matters. It's the centerpiece of every viable set. Build around that.

  • Appletun is a special attacker with base 100 Sp. Atk. Enough bulk to take a hit or two, too. Speed tells the real story. Base 30 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. Fits the attacker role.

  • The core moveset is Appleacid, Leech Seed, Recover, and Dragon Pulse. Appleacid leads at 0% usage. This set covers the attacker role with a mix of damage and utility.

Game Availability

Available since Sword & Shield, Appletun appears in 2 games spanning 3 generations. Beyond its original form, it gained a Gigantamax form in Generation 8.
