Fell hard in Gen IX (Scarlet & Violet). The format's speed and power made Amoonguss too slow to execute before getting KO'd. Spore accuracy couldn't save it.

Amoonguss Guide

  • Don't let Amoonguss's 464 base stat total fool you. Regenerator is what makes it tick. It punches way above its weight class. We rate it C-Tier as a support.

  • Watch for Arcanine (Fire), Walrein (Ice), and Staraptor (Flying) when using Amoonguss. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Psychic-type attackers are also a problem. At base 30 Speed, Amoonguss won't outrun any of these threats so switching to a resist is usually the safer play.

  • Run Regenerator on Amoonguss. It's the ability that defines how you build around it and the main reason it holds a competitive niche. Amoonguss also gets Effect Spore, but they don't compare.

  • Amoonguss fills the support role. It's a mixed attacker with base 85 Attack and 85 Sp. Atk. Base 30 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.

  • Run Toxic, Giga Drain, Clearsmog, and Foulplay on Amoonguss. Toxic is the most common pick at 0% usage. This set covers the support role with a mix of damage and utility.

Game Availability

Introduced in Black & White, Amoonguss has appeared in 9 games across 6 generations. Later debuts mean fewer total appearances, but it's been a consistent presence since its introduction.
